World Cup: clarification on point system?
I don’t usually keep track of soccer standings, and I only really follow the local MLS team, so the point system seems a little strange to me, and I’d like to make sure I’m looking at things right…
a win is 3 points, a draw is 1 point to each team, and a loss is 0 points… right? Does the actual score of the match count toward anything?
The Guy was almost correct, but he used the wrong word
Not aggregate, but goal difference. (GD)
In group B
Argentina has 6 points scored 5-1 against therefore +4
South Korea has 3 points. Scored 3 – 4 against therefore -1
Greece has also got 3 points. Scored 2 – 3 against, also -1
Although both have the same goal difference, S Korea are ahead at the moment because of the number of goals scored FOR.
Nigeria has 0 points scored 1- 3 against. GD of -2
If Nigeria (3pts) beat South Korea and Greece (3pts) beat Argentina, then
the table will read:
Argentina ……6 points
Greece …..6 points
South Korea ….. 3 points.
Nigeria …… 3 points
I can’t see that happening, I think the table will end as this:
Argentina ……9 points
South Korea ….. 3 points.
Greece …..3 points
Nigeria …… 3 points
